WINTER’S HERE- HOW DO WE BEST CARE FOR OUR SKIN THROUGH THE COOL CHANGE?
We may be past the midpoint of winter, but there’s still plenty of cold weather to come. Our skin is an indicator of how our whole body is coping through the harsher months, supporting your skin through diet, lifestyle and your skincare regime can help to improve its condition and find that natural winter glow.
LIFESTYLE
In times of stress, our bodies go through vitamin C, B vitamins and glutamine, all of which are required for healthy skin. Reduce stress by supporting a healthy work/life balance, adopting daily meditation and exercise. Further nourish the adrenals by avoiding caffeine before 9am when your cortisol is naturally at its highest.
DIET
Our body is constantly trying to find equilibrium to be in a state of homeostasis. During the cooler months it is important to incorporate foods with a warming energy like ginger, parsnips, leek, pumpkin, pepper, garlic, leek and cinnamon.
Nutrients that reduce inflammation and improve the integrity of the skin are omega 3, zinc, and vitamins A, C and D. Increasing oily fish and other seafood, dark leafy greens, sweet potato, pumpkin and broccoli will ensure a high intake of these nutrients.
HERBAL TEA
The Mayde Tea Energise, Organic Chai and Rooibos Turmeric chai comprise the spices cardamom, pepper, clove, ginger and cinnamon to improve circulation – resulting in higher amounts of oxygen and nutrients reaching the skin. These herbs also warm and support the digestive system – encouraging adequate absorption of nutrients and excretion of toxins.
