Why Summer Often Feels So Good
As the days grow longer and warmer, I often hear people say, “I just feel better in summer.” More energised. More open. More like themselves. And from a naturopathic perspective, that makes perfect sense.

Our bodies are deeply responsive to the seasons. Summer invites a natural softening; not just physically, but emotionally too. Warmth, light and ease work together in ways that gently support the nervous system and help us feel more connected to ourselves and the world around us.
One of the most noticeable shifts in summer is how movement begins to feel easier. Warmth increases circulation, helping the body feel less tense and more fluid. Many people wake with more energy, experience less stiffness, and feel naturally motivated to move, not because they should, but because it feels good.
Longer days also play an important role. Light supports mood and rhythm, helping regulate our internal clock and supporting emotional balance. Morning sunlight, in particular, offers a gentle cue to the nervous system that it’s time to wake, engage and connect. This is often why summer feels more uplifting and expansive.
From a nervous system perspective, warmth encourages openness. The body feels safer, less guarded, and more willing to engage. This can show up as increased confidence, creativity and social connection. Summer has a way of inviting us outward, toward others, toward nature, toward experiences that feel nourishing.
You may also notice that your choices naturally shift in warmer weather. Lighter meals, more hydration, slower evenings and simple rituals often emerge without effort. This is the body responding intuitively to what supports balance in the heat.
Perhaps one of summer’s greatest gifts is how it creates space for presence. Long evenings, shared meals and unhurried moments offer the nervous system a chance to settle. Connection, with others or with nature, is deeply regulating, and summer makes this kind of connection feel accessible.
I encourage you to notice what summer gives you. Where you feel lighter. Where you feel more like yourself. These cues are worth listening to. Wellbeing doesn’t always come from effort or optimisation, sometimes it comes from warmth, light and the permission to feel good.
Let this season remind you that your body knows how to move toward balance when it feels supported.
