10 Health Hacks To Improve Digestion & Immunity

It can be easy to view our health as the product of separate organ systems that work in their own ways to keep us healthy and feeling our best. However, the inner systems within our body are all closely linked & interconnected to each other and work synergistically to maintain optimal health. Two key systems that work very closely in our bodies are the gut & the immune system. Not only do these key organ systems share similar enzymes & genetic pathways, but they each also impact the other greatly.

Incorporating our Digest and Restore blends into your daily routine is a beautiful and simple way to support your digestion and immune system. But there are other effective ways to optimise these systems, too. Here are 10 of my favourite health hacks you can start making today.

  • Boost your fibre intake:
  • Fibre is a key nutrient that feeds our digestive system and supports the efficient functioning of the immune system. Most individuals need at least 25g of fibre per day for good health, and whilst this number seems low, many people are not meeting these daily recommendations. Incorporating more high-fibre foods into your diet, such as beans, legumes, whole grains, fruit & vegetables, will help to support good digestion & immunity.

  • Stay hydrated:
  • Hydration is vital when it comes to feeling healthy & thriving within your body. It is also essential to any health routine that aims to support digestive health & immune functioning. The general recommendation to support adequate hydration levels within the body is 0.033 x your weight in kg = the number of litres of water your body needs to function at its best. Consuming herbal tea throughout the day is another great way to improve your hydration levels while also experiencing all the incredible benefits from the herbs on digestion and immunity.

  • Enjoy a warm beverage each morning:
  • Kickstart your digestive function & boost your immune health by consuming a warm beverage such as our Cleanse blend upon waking every morning. This can help to stimulate your gut & also increases your hydration levels for the day.

    1. Increase your Zinc intake:

A superhero nutrient when it comes to both our gut & immune system is Zinc. Zinc can be found in foods such as oysters, beans, nuts & whole grains. Increasing your zinc intake daily gives your body the boost it needs to improve your digestion & immune system functioning.

  • Reduce Stress:
  • Stress can have a significant impact on digestion and immune function. Try incorporating adaptogens, such as our Adapt blend, into your daily routine, and establish a nightly wind-down routine, perhaps taking part in some journaling and sipping our Serenity blend – a balm for the nervous system!

  • Move daily:
  • Daily movement is also a key healthy habit to add to your arsenal for boosting your immune system & your digestion. Our favourite ways to move to support these body systems are through a daily walk or gentle yoga, or pilates session.

  • Don't skimp on carbs:
  • Carbohydrates are so important for your body, especially if you are someone who exercises. This essential macronutrient is essential for both your gut (as most fibre sources are carbohydrates) and for your immune system function - so don't skimp on your carbs. Always opt for low GI, wholegrain sources such as brown rice, quinoa, oats, and sweet potato.

  • Get adequate sleep
  • Ensuring you sleep at least 7-9 hours per night & resting your body as necessary throughout the week is extremely important for gut + immune health.

  • Avoid alcohol
  • Alcohol can degrade the gut microbiome and immune system. Swap a nightly glass of wine for our delicious Organic Chai

  • Mindfulness
  • Participating in a daily mindfulness routine can help to boost your digestion & immune system.

Incorporating these simple health hacks into your daily routine can improve digestion and immune function. So, give them a try and see how you feel!
